Giulio is One Month Old!!

Can you believe how quickly time is passing and how much Giulio is growing?  I certainly cannot.

Today Giulio is one month old.  He weighs 10 lbs 4 oz (4.65 kg) and eats like a little piglet.  We measured him to be about 22.5 inches (57 cm).  He's long and skinny!

Newborn and one month old clothes are too small for him.  He's filling out the 3 month size now.  I shed a tear when I put away the outfits Giulio first wore at the hospital.  He's changing so quickly.

Well, one month old and Giulio still hates baths.  Hopefully he'll learn to like water because I ordered 2 swim diapers for him to use this summer at Ruffia.

He likes warm towels and snuggles after bath time though!

We celebrated Giulio's first Easter.  Nonna gave him an Easter egg as big as he is!

As big as he is, as much as he's grown, he still scrunches up like a little ball in my arms.  So sweet!

This month we're looking forward to meeting Aunt Laura & Uncle Chris, celebrating Mommy's 30th birthday and going to more brew pubs!

Giulio's Third Week

From the Baby Bjorn Cam!
From Giulio James

The little man is 3 weeks old and he's getting bigger.  It's hard for me to see it because he hardly ever leaves my sight, but my arms feel that he's heavier, and his newborn clothes have become too short for his long legs!

Screaming and crying for bath time

This week Giulio had his first bath, which he hated.  He screamed and cried the whole time, but he really loved the warm towel part at the end.  We'll be trying that again this weekend and hopefully he'll start liking it more.  He is a pisces after all!

Warm towel and a pacifier makes Giulio feel better!

Yesterday we took Giulio to his first appointment with the pediatrician.  She's a weirdo, but I'm sure she'll be fine.  She's a block away from our house, so you can't get more convenient than that!

Last weekend we took Giulio to the Saluzzo market for the first time and applied for his Italian passport while we were out.  He slept the whole time; what a great kid!

Then on Sunday we went to Ruffia to visit Giulio's puppy, Olney.  We also saw Nonna & Nonno, Zia Giovanna & Zio Paolo!

Giulio is One Week Old!

Giulio is one week old today.  It's been an exciting week.  We escaped from the hospital a bit early and were home by Wednesday afternoon.  I did not find my hospital stay restful and felt much better being home even without the support of the nursery and OB's down the hall.
Ready to go home for the first time!

Olney came and visited just for the weekend while Fabri was home all day to help.  He found every noise Giulio made disconcerting at first, but by Sunday evening, Olney was getting used to ignoring him.

Olney says "what's happened to my life!?"

Giulio really likes staying in the BabyBjorn with Daddy and I have to say that Fabri loves it too.  There are lots of silly BabyBjorn dances happening around here.

We're looking forward to Grandma & Grandpa arriving on Thursday and to becoming better breast feeders...

Nesting Part 2

Here are the photos from our forest themed nursery.  I wanted to do a forest theme because I didn't want to change the wall color or curtains in the room.  Its hard to tell, but those are entomology curtains!
It looks dark here, but this is the sunniest room in the house

Loving all the Carter's Forest Friends cuteness!  My Mom made me that animal embroidery to the right back when I was born.

We moved the sofa all the way around the room to leave it back where we started!

Poll Results

After stalling for a few days at an even 13 - 13, the final results are in!  You think we're having a......GIRL!  The final results were 15 to 13, so not a very convincing margin, but it was fun to watch the results come in.

My cousin Jen suggested trying some old wives' tales to clear up the matter, so here's the list I compiled:

  • Chinese Birth Chart                                             girl
  • Carrying High                                                      girl
  • Dry Skin                                                               boy
  • Hair
    • Thin & Dull = boy
    • Full & Glossy = girl                                   My hair is full & dull so...tie
  • Extra Weight on Front Only                                 boy (hooray for no extra weight on my butt & hips!)
  • Sum of Age at Conception and Month Conceived
    • 29 + 6 = 35 an Odd Number                       girl
  •  Wedding Ring on a String Over Belly Swings in a Pendulum            girl
  • Fabri has NO Sympathy Weight                           boy
So the old wives' tales say girl by another narrow margin.  We're definitely going to stick with the yellow & green theme for now.  I will be writing Nesting Part 2 as soon as I get the chance so you can see the finished nursery, so be on the look out for that!
